Fun Facts about the Eastern Townships Region

The heart of Eastern Townships beats in Sherbrooke, its main city established as far back as 1793. A bygone era’s relic, round barns were once a common sight, emerging in the late 19th century and still present albeit in limited numbers today. So, why round? The prevailing notion is that it was designed to thwart the devil’s ability to lurk unseen in any corner. However, the truth lies in its practicality – allowing farmers to effortlessly tend to their livestock at the center. Meanwhile, Mont-Mégantic, a mountain within Eastern Townships, earned the distinction of being the world’s first International Dark Sky Reserve in 2007, thanks to its exceptional stargazing capabilities. Visit on a clear night and be awed by the celestial display. For golf enthusiasts, Eastern Townships boasts an impressive number of courses in Québec, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a tee-time adventure.
