The Akatsuki is a powerful organization of S-rank missing-nin in Naruto Shippuden. They serve as the primary antagonists for much of the story. The group is made up of some incredibly skilled shinobi, many of whom possess unique abilities that make them quite formidable.
Background on the Akatsuki
The Akatsuki was originally founded by Yahiko during the Second Shinobi World War. After Yahiko’s death, the group was taken over by Obito Uchiha, who posed as Madara Uchiha. Under Obito’s leadership, the Akatsuki’s goals shifted to capturing the tailed beasts for their plan to revive the Ten-Tails.
At its peak, the group had 10 official members, known as the Ten Tails Jinchuriki. Each member wore a signature black cloak with red clouds and a matching ring. The members operated in teams of two, with the exception of Obito who worked alone.
Immortal Akatsuki Members
Out of the 10 official Akatsuki members, only 3 possessed immortality:
- Kakuzu
- Hidan
- Obito Uchiha
Here is a brief overview of why each of these members was considered immortal:
Kakuzu
Kakuzu attained a form of immortality by integrating other people’s hearts into his own body. This allowed him to extend his lifespan indefinitely. By the time of his death, he had lived over 90 years by stealing other hearts.
Hidan
Hidan practiced a religious ritual that essentially made him immortal. Any injuries he sustained would not kill him, but rather acted as a medium for his ritual. He was still alive after being blown to pieces and buried, requiring no sustenance to survive.
Obito Uchiha
Obito gained intangibility after unlocking his Mangekyo Sharingan. He could allow attacks to pass right through him, making it seemingly impossible to kill him. This intangibility allowed Obito to survive situations that would have killed anyone else.
Other Notable Members
While not immortal, several other Akatsuki members were exceptionally powerful or had abilities that made them very difficult to kill:
- Itachi Uchiha – His Mangekyo Sharingan and Susano’o provided formidable defenses.
- Sasori – Turned his body into a puppet, avoiding fatal blows.
- Deidara – Could replace damaged body parts with explosives.
- Nagato – The Six Paths of Pain made him difficult to reach.
Conclusion
Out of the 10 official members, only Kakuzu, Hidan, and Obito Uchiha possessed true immortality. Their unique abilities allowed them to survive virtually any attack and gave them lifespans exceeding normal human limitations. While other members were quite powerful, they did not demonstrate the same invincibility as these three immortal shinobi.
