How many types of Rick are there?

Rick and Morty is a popular animated sci-fi sitcom that revolves around the adventures of genius scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they travel across different dimensions and alternate realities. With the show featuring infinite numbers of alternate universes, there are countless versions of Rick Sanchez that have appeared throughout the series.

Main Dimension Rick

The main Rick that the show follows is referred to as Rick C-137. He originated from Dimension C-137 and currently resides with the Smith family in the main dimension the show follows. This is the Rick that viewers are most familiar with. He is an eccentric alcoholic mad scientist who drags his grandson Morty along on dangerous interdimensional adventures. He has a nihilistic and cynical outlook on life.

Evil Rick

Evil Rick, also known as Rick Sanchez of Dimension C-132, appeared in the episode “Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind.” This version of Rick had an eyepatch and a scar over his left eye. He was the head of the Trans-Dimensional Council of Ricks and orchestrated a plan to kill Ricks from other dimensions and frame C-137 Rick for it. He turned out to be a robotic imposter remotely controlled by Evil Morty.

Doofus Rick

Doofus Rick, or Rick J19ζ7, made his first appearance in “Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind.” Unlike other Ricks, Doofus Rick is kindhearted, gentle, and eats his own poop. He comes from a universe where people eat their own poop. Doofus Rick lacks typical Rick intelligence and lives a simple life as a non-scientific version of Rick.

Slow Rick

Slow Rick, formally known as Dimension Unknown Rick, appeared in the episode “The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy.” As his name suggests, this Rick speaks slowly and takes a long time to formulate thoughts and sentences. Slow Rick comes from a dimension where everyone talks and moves slowly. He was assigned as Summer’s replacement grandpa when Rick and Morty went on an adventure.

Replacement Ricks

When the main Rick and Morty are unavailable for adventures, the Smith family can call upon Replacement Ricks and Mortys provided by the Citadel of Ricks. These generic, temporary substitute Ricks have filled in when the main Rick is in prison or unavailable. They lack the distinct personality of C-137 Rick and are not as close with the Smith family.

Simple Rick

Simple Rick is a version of Rick Sanchez who lives a happy, fulfilling life as a suburban dad and husband. He was captured by the mega corporation Simple Rick’s and hooked up to a machine to harvest his brainwaves to produce Simple Rick’s Wafer Cookies using his memories of home and family. Simple Rick appeared in the episode “The Old Man and the Seat.”

Pickle Rick

Pickle Rick refers to Rick Sanchez after he turned himself into a pickle to avoid going to family therapy. This version of Rick had no limbs and had to construct makeshift appendages to move around and escape dangerous situations. Pickle Rick demonstrated Rick’s high level of scientific intelligence, even in pickle form.

Chair Rick

Chair Rick was a disabled version of Rick who uses an advanced hovering chair to move around instead of walking. He led a rebellion of disabled Mortys in the Citadel of Ricks in the episode “Tales from the Citadel.” Chair Rick had shoulder-length hair and wore a cloak.

Cop Rick

Cop Rick is a Rick Sanchez who works as a police officer in the Citadel of Ricks. Along with Cop Morty, Cop Rick investigates crimes and upholds intergalactic law throughout the Citadel. He carries a laser gun and wears a police uniform with the R insignia. He first appeared in “The Ricklantis Mixup.”

Salesman Rick

Salesman Rick works at Simple Rick’s Wafer Cookie factory selling the cookies made using Simple Rick’s memories. He wears a white salesman outfit and hat and carries boxes of Simple Rick’s Wafers around to try and sell them. Salesman Rick appears eager and enthusiastic about the cookies.

Cowboy Rick

Cowboy Rick resides in Dimension J19zeta7, along with Doofus Rick. This Rick embraces the cowboy lifestyle, wearing a classic cowboy hat, boots, and holster. Cowboy Rick speaks with a Southern drawl and enjoys old West pastimes like riding horses and square dancing.

Cyclops Rick

Cyclops Rick is a mutated, monstrous version of Rick Sanchez that was Cronenberged along with his entire dimension. He has a single large eye in the middle of his face and tentacles sprouting from his cheeks. Cyclops Rick appeared in the episode “Rick Potion No. 9.”

Insurance Rick

Insurance Rick has the mundane job of working at an insurance company in the Citadel of Ricks. He wears a suit and tie and works in a drab cubicle farm environment processing insurance claims. Insurance Rick represents Ricks stuck in boring desk jobs.

Rick D716

Rick D716 was one of the Ricks who formed the first Trans-Dimensional Council of Ricks. He helped establish the Citadel of Ricks as a place where Ricks could congregate and form a self-governed community. Rick D716-B mentions him when describing Citadel history.

Retired General Rick

Lieutenant General Rick Sanchez was highest-ranking Rick in the old Citadel military before it was abolished. He wore an army uniform decorated with medals and insignia indicating his senior status. General Rick oversaw Citadel armed forces operations.

Private Sector Rick

After the Citadel military was disbanded, some Ricks like Private Sector Rick found new jobs in the private security industry. He wears body armor and a helmet and carries a large rifle to guard private facilities in the Citadel.

Farmer Rick

Some Ricks in the Citadel live a simple life as farmers, like Farmer Rick. He wears dirty overalls and a straw hat and works in the agricultural zone harvesting mega seeds and other crops for the Citadel.

Maximums Rickimus

Maximums Rickimus hosts televised gladiator battles in the Citadel’s Colosseum, providing entertainment for the masses. He wears a toga and laurel wreath while announcing the savage matches to the death in the arena.

Conclusion

While C-137 Rick is the main version focused on in the show, the multiverse of Rick and Morty contains an infinite number of alternate Ricks. Within the show, we have seen well over a dozen iterations of Rick Sanchez across various dimensions, timelines, occupations, mutations, and moral alignments. The wide range of Ricks demonstrates the character’s complexity and how different lives produce vastly different versions of the same person.
