Zenitsu Agatsuma is one of the main characters in the popular anime and manga series Demon Slayer. He is a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slaying Corps and is part of the Hashira, the most powerful swordsmen who hunt demons. Zenitsu is known for his immense speed and agility in combat, being able to move so fast he seems to teleport. However, he is actually quite weak and cowardly outside of battle.
The upper moon demons are the most powerful demons under Muzan Kibutsuji, the main antagonist of the series. They are given a number based on strength, with Upper Moon One being the strongest. So the question arises, with Zenitsu’s immense speed, is he stronger than the upper moon demons?
Zenitsu’s Abilities
Zenitsu is a practitioner of the Thunder Breathing combat style, which gives him incredible speed and reaction time. He is so fast that most demons cannot even see him coming before he defeats them. His signature move is Godspeed, which allows him to essentially teleport short distances instantly. This speed makes him extremely deadly against demons.
In addition to speed, Zenitsu has heightened senses, allowing him to hear and smell things normal humans cannot. His hearing is so acute he can tell what techniques and moves an opponent will use solely by the sound of their muscles tensing. This gives him a major advantage in combat.
However, Zenitsu also has weaknesses. Outside of combat, he is cowardly, weak, and prone to panic attacks. He also only knows one Thunder Breathing form, which limits his techniques. Additionally, maintaining Godspeed for too long drains his stamina quickly.
The Upper Moon Demons
The upper moon demons consist of six demons who are numbered one through six, with Upper Moon One being the strongest. They each have unique Blood Demon Arts and are incredibly deadly.
Here is a quick overview of each upper moon demon:
Upper Moon One: Kokushibo
– Former Lower Moon One who became Upper Moon One after defeating the previous holder.
– Master swordsman who utilizes Moon Breathing combat style. His techniques are incredibly fast and deadly.
– Can manipulate his body into various weapons.
– Has lived for hundreds of years, making him very experienced.
Upper Moon Two: Doma
– Uses ice based Blood Demon Art to freeze opponents and environment.
– Can regenerate from any non-decapitation injury.
– Very narcissistic and arrogant personality.
Upper Moon Three: Akaza
– Uses Disorder combat style with destructive punches.
– Can track opponents by sensing their fighting spirit.
– Can detach and reattach body parts.
Upper Moon Four: Nakime
– Uses Blood Demon Art to warp and manipulate space within infinity fortress.
– Not a fighter but support. Controls fortress for Muzan and Upper Moons.
Upper Moon Five: Gyokko
– Artistic demon who uses clay based Blood Demon Art to animate figures and attack opponents.
– Can morph body parts into various weapons and blades.
Upper Moon Six: Gyutaro
– Dual wields deadly sickles.
– Has poisonous Body Demon Art. Those cut by him will die within 24 hours without antidote.
– Shares body with sister Daki who acts in tandem as Upper Moon Six.
How Zenitsu Compares
So with Zenitsu’s abilities and the upper moons analyzed, how does Zenitsu compare against the upper moon demons?
Speed
In terms of pure speed and reaction time, Zenitsu’s Godspeed is superior to any of the Upper Moons. None of them have demonstrated the instant teleportation movement Zenitsu displays when using Thunder Breathing. This gives him a massive advantage.
However, some Upper Moons have techniques that allow them to defend against such speed. For example, Akaza’s Destructive Kills allows him to fight purely on instinct, predicting opponents moves. Kokushibo also has very fast reaction times and swordsmanship to counter speed.
So while Zenitsu has the edge in speed, some Upper Moons have ways to defend against it.
Combat Ability
The Upper Moons have much more combat experience and abilities compared to Zenitsu. Kokushibo has mastered Moon Breathing sword styles, Akaza utilizes the vicious Disorder combat style, and Gyutaro wields poisonous sickles. They have developed a variety of lethal techniques.
Zenitsu only knows the first form of Thunder Breathing. While incredibly fast and deadly, he lacks the diversity of abilities the Upper Moons possess. Additionally, outside of Godspeed his combat ability is average.
The Upper Moons’ superior arsenal of techniques and experience gives them the edge here.
Durability & Endurance
Zenitsu’s stamina and durability pales in comparison to the Upper Moons. He is able to use Godspeed only in short bursts before tiring. The Upper Moons have incredible endurance and stamina to fight for hours or days.
Their enhanced demonic biology also makes them incredibly durable. All of them can withstand massive damage and continue fighting. Zenitsu does not have nearly the same level of endurance.
This category is firmly in favor of the Upper Moons.
Category | Zenitsu | Upper Moons |
---|---|---|
Speed | Superior | Varies |
Combat Ability | Basic | Superior |
Durability & Endurance | Poor | Superior |
Conclusion
Based on this analysis, it seems clear that despite Zenitsu’s massive speed advantage, the Upper Moon demons have greater overall combat ability and endurance. They have a wider array of deadly techniques and hundreds of years more experience than Zenitsu.
While Zenitsu’s Godspeed makes him incredibly lethal against non-Hashira and Upper Moon level demons, he likely does not have the skill, technique arsenal, or endurance to defeat an Upper Moon in single combat. However, his speed could potentially allow him to catch some Upper Moons off guard and deal significant damage. But in prolonged combat, the Upper Moons’ versatility and durability gives them the edge.
Against the absolute strongest Upper Moon like Kokushibo, it’s very unlikely Zenitsu could win. But he potentially could defeat weaker Upper Moons like Nakime if he uses his speed to full advantage. Overall, when comparing the totality of their abilities, the Upper Moon demons seem superior to Zenitsu in most categories.
