As our plane began its descent, I caught sight of the breathtaking island of Saint Lucia, and I knew I was in for a treat. The twin Pitons rose majestically from the sea, while palm-lined beaches and lush rainforests teemed with waterfalls. It’s no wonder that St. Lucia is a magnet for travelers worldwide, drawing them to its island paradise. With its eastern Caribbean location, Saint Lucia has a rich cultural heritage shaped by African, East Indian, French, and English influences, which manifests in its cuisine, music, and traditions. While it’s often touted as a honeymooner’s haven, this stunning island also beckons adventure-seekers who’ll appreciate its scuba diving, snorkeling, and hiking opportunities.
Day 1 – Pigeon Island

As we stepped away from the Sandals Grande St. Lucian, our adventure began with a leisurely 5-minute walk to Pigeon Island, a historical gem that has undergone significant transformations over the years. Originally an island, it was connected to Saint Lucia’s northern region in the early 1970s via a causeway. Our exploration took us up to one of the island’s most iconic landmarks, where we embarked on the Pigeon Island Pirate Treasure Hunt Tour with Island Routes Tours. While we didn’t don eye patches and swords, we did enjoy a nature-filled tour with fun ‘treasures’ scattered along the way. The flexible itinerary allowed us to wander freely and take in the breathtaking views, which truly lived up to their reputation. We even returned to Pigeon Island at sunset that same day, capturing stunning photos on the beach due to its picturesque scenery. Following our island adventure, we retreated to the Sandals Grande St. Lucian, where we spent some downtime lounging by the massive pool and sprawling beach. The resort’s unique features included hammocks floating in the water (my personal favorite) and fire pits along the shoreline for evening gatherings. I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Brendan Williams for joining me on this trip and capturing its essence through his photographs.

Day 2 – Soufriere Adventure Cruise
As we embarked on day two’s Soufriere Adventure Cruise with Island Route Tours, exhaustion didn’t deter us from embracing the excitement. The catamaran cruise down St. Lucia’s coast to the iconic Piton Mountains was an unforgettable experience. Every moment was filled with laughter and adventure. We disembarked at one point to take a shuttle to various attractions, marveling at the breathtaking ocean views and mountain vistas. A snorkeling and swimming stop in crystal-clear waters was a highlight, showcasing the island’s natural beauty. This signature tour is a must-do, covering key landmarks, cocoa bean plantations, and unforgettable moments. The relaxing atmosphere, gentle breeze in our hair, and stunning scenery left us feeling like we could have lingered forever. We even stopped at an epic waterfall and went diving! It was a long but thoroughly enjoyable day, allowing us to venture beyond our resort’s gates and truly experience the essence of this tropical paradise.
Day 3 – Rained Out Saint Lucia Safari
As I reflect on this trip, I’m struck by how quickly it’s come to an end. There’s always a bittersweet quality to the last day of travel for me. On one hand, I’m thrilled to have experienced so much beauty and adventure at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. On the other hand, I’ll truly miss this stunning resort and the memories we’ve made here.
Our Beach & Waterfall Safari with Island Routes Tours was a highlight of our trip. We started by sampling some delicious local fruits, which really put us in the right mood for an action-packed day. Our guide then took us on a scenic ride in a 4×4 Jeep, giving us a thrilling perspective on the island’s breathtaking landscapes.
Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. A sudden rain shower left the road flooding and our journey was more rugged than anticipated. But despite the challenges, we still managed to have an amazing time.
