Our Stay At Hamn I Senja In Norway

As I embarked on a 10-day adventure to northern Norway in early September, I found myself immersed in a nature lover’s paradise. Known for its stunning landscapes, Norway is a haven for hikers, photographers, and wanderers alike. Our home base during our journey was the Hamn i Senja resort, where we had the privilege of witnessing two breathtaking natural phenomena – bioluminescence and the Aurora Borealis on the enchanting island of Senja.

Why is Norway a Great Place to Visit?

Norway’s allure lies in its breathtaking natural landscape, which makes it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The country’s vast territories are dominated by majestic fjords, slow-moving glaciers, and rugged mountain ranges, creating a haven for hikers, photographers, and wanderers seeking adventure.

Lofoten Islands

The Lofoten Islands in Norway are an archipelago like no other, with breathtaking scenery that will leave you awestruck. This destination is paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting numerous cycling paths and hiking trails that weave their way through the stunning landscapes. But what truly sets Lofoten apart is its unique ability to display the spectacular displays of the northern lights and midnight sun. Located north of the Arctic Circle and sprawling across the Norwegian Sea, this enchanting place has a rich Viking history, which can be explored at the fascinating Lofotr Viking Museum. The islands’ many quaint villages also offer great fishing opportunities. What’s more, despite its high latitude, Lofoten enjoys a surprisingly mild climate thanks to the warm Gulf Stream. If you’re looking to witness the midnight sun, visit between late May and mid-July, but if it’s the Norway northern lights you’re after, come during the best-known times – September through mid-April.

Hamnøy

During our travels to Norway, we were fortunate enough to catch more than just a glimpse of the breathtaking natural beauty that this country has to offer. Our journey began with four nights spent at the Eliassen Rorbuer in Hamnøy, which left an indelible mark on us and definitely warrants a spot on your bucket list if you’re planning a trip to Norway.

Our Norway adventure continued with two nights spent on the picturesque Senja Island at Hamn i Senja resort. The six-hour drive from Hamnøy was a scenic delight, featuring quaint fishing villages, breathtaking landscapes and an abundance of photo opportunities that seemed endless. We arrived in this charming 19th-century fishing village, nestled off Highway 86, and were greeted by the tranquility of its waterfront setting. Consisting of cozy cottages, a conference facility and a majestic lighthouse, the resort offered an idyllic retreat amidst Senja’s sparse population. For Europeans, it’s a gem of a vacation spot that truly feels like an oasis in a desert.

The Hamn i Senja Cabins on the Island of Senja

The Hamn i Senja’s cabin suites offered an ideal blend of coziness and breathtaking views, with our own deck overlooking the water. Each cabin was well-equipped with a kitchen and plush bedding, featuring a unique Scandinavian twist – two individual duvets for each person, eliminating any need to share. As we settled in, the crisp Arctic air outside only added to the allure of our secluded retreat. When not exploring the surrounding wilderness, we spent mornings kayaking or boating on the water, taking advantage of the Hamn i Senja’s prime location. Although September’s mid-month chill had set in, we still found warmth and comfort within our cabin’s walls, warming up with a soothing cup of tea after braving the elements.
