God sees the inherent worth and value in each of us. As human beings created in God’s image, we all have dignity, potential, and purpose. Though we are imperfect and make mistakes, God sees beyond our faults to the person He created us to be. When God looks at us, He sees someone to love, redeem, and transform.
We are made in God’s image
The Bible teaches that human beings are uniquely made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27). This means we reflect God’s nature and character in a way that nothing else in creation does. We have the capacity to know and be known by God, to love and be loved by God. Our identity and worth come from how we are made, not what we do. Even in our brokenness as sinners, we still bear God’s image. He values us immensely.
We have inherent dignity
Every human life has inherent dignity and worth because we are made in God’s image. Our value is not based on our appearance, abilities, economic status, gender, age, accomplishments, talents, or anything else external. It comes from God’s assessment of us. He sees us as precious and priceless, and He wants us to see ourselves and others the same way. Even the weakest and most vulnerable among us have dignity as God’s image-bearers.
We are the pinnacle of God’s creation
Human beings have a unique place in God’s created order. We were created last, after everything else was prepared for us. We were given dominion over the earth and all living creatures (Genesis 1:26). God breathed His own breath into the first humans, bringing them to life in a special way (Genesis 2:7). He gave us abilities like reason, creativity, speech, and moral agency that set us apart. When God looks at us, He sees the pinnacle of His creation. We have a sacred role and responsibility.
God sees our potential
Despite our fallen nature, God still sees our potential for good. He looks beyond our present circumstances and flaws to what we can become by His grace. When God looks at us, He sees the people He intended us to be from the very beginning. He sees what we can’t yet see in ourselves.
We can be transformed
God does not leave us stuck in our current state of imperfection and brokenness. He wants to transform our lives through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers us to grow in Christlikeness as we yield to Him. God sees this potential for transformation in each of us. He sees the new creation we can become in His strength (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are not defined by our past failures and shortcomings.
We can fulfill our purpose
God has entrusted each of us with unique gifts, passions, and experiences that allow us to fulfill a special purpose. He sees our specific calling and the good works He has planned for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). Even when we can’t recognize it, God knows the purpose and plan He has for our lives. When He looks at us, He sees the great potential of living fully into this purpose. We just need to walk in faith and obedience.
We reflect God’s glory
As we grow in Christ, we increasingly reflect God’s glory to the world (2 Corinthians 3:18). People can see His light and love manifested through us. God sees this amazing capacity we have to make His goodness known. He sees the potential of our witness bringing others to know Him too. All of heaven celebrates when one sinner repents and turns to God (Luke 15:10).
God sees our true identity
Human vision is limited. We tend to identify ourselves and others based on worldly standards and outward appearances. But God sees our true, deepest identity. He lovingly and accurately defines who we are.
We are God’s children
Through faith in Christ, we become children of God (John 1:12). He looks at us with the affection of a perfect heavenly Father. We belong to His family forever. When struggles come, God sees us as His precious children whom He will carry and comfort. There is no greater identity than being a dearly loved child of God.
We are friends of Christ
Jesus calls believers His friends (John 15:15). What an amazing privilege! The God of the universe sees us as His intimate companions. Though we are finite and He is infinite, God chooses close friendship with us. He sees us as worthy of knowing His heart and plans. This friendship transforms everything about our identity.
We are saints
Because of what Jesus accomplished on our behalf, God declares us holy and blameless before Him (Colossians 1:22). We are saints, set apart for His purposes. Even with our imperfections, God sees us as completely cleansed and purified in Christ. He sees us as we truly are in Him – righteous saints.
We are new creations
When God looks at those who are in Christ, He sees an entirely new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our old identity has passed away, and we are made completely new. We are re-created with Christ’s righteousness, redeemed from all our past mistakes and failures. God sees us as His new workmanship.
God sees our struggles
Our loving Father sees our pain and the difficult circumstances we face in this fallen world. He looks on us with tenderness and compassion. God is never indifferent to the struggles we endure.
He understands our weaknesses
God knows we are dust (Psalm 103:14). He remembers our human frailty. When we are too weak to go on, too broken to lift ourselves up, God sees us with kindness and mercy. He is always ready to comfort, heal, and renew our strength. He does not condemn us for our battles and limitations.
He knows our hearts
We cannot hide anything from God because He sees and understands the secrets of every heart (Psalm 44:21). All our hurts, doubts, fears, and pains are open before Him. When we pour out our heart to God, we are not telling Him anything new. He compassionately sees the burdens we carry.
He bottles our tears
God is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). When we weep, He collects and records every tear in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). Not one sorrow escapes His notice. Our pain matters deeply to Him. God does not minimize or trivialize what we are going through. He sees, He cares, He helps.
Struggle | How God sees us |
Weakness | With kindness and mercy |
Inner turmoil | With compassion and understanding |
Suffering | As worthy of comfort and healing |
Heartache | With tenderness and empathy |
He never leaves us
Even when we feel abandoned and alone in our troubles, God promises to be with us always (Deuteronomy 31:6). He sees our pain and stays by our side in the fire of afflictions. We never suffer without His vigilant presence. This lifeline of God’s faithfulness gives us strength to endure.
God sees our hearts
Outward appearances can be misleading. But God always sees correctly because He looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Our innermost being is laid bare before His eyes. He searches the hearts to test thoughts and motives.
He sees our sincerity
Many people wear masks and pretend to be someone they are not. But we can never fool God. He sees right through to the core of who we really are. He discerns whether our faith is genuine. God recognizes sincerity of heart that may be missed by others focused on outward actions.
He sees our love
God notices when our love for Him overflows into love for others. He sees the compassion, kindness, and selflessness that dwells in our hearts. He values these far more than empty religious rituals done for outward show. When our hearts belong fully to Him, God sees our devotion and commitment.
He sees hidden motives
We can disguise wrong motives from others, but not God. When we harbor things like jealousy, greed, pride, or hatred in our hearts, He sees it clearly. God observes when our hearts grow cold or wander from loving Him first. We cannot justify or rationalize hidden sins before Him. He knows us better than we know ourselves.
He sees past our failures
When we fall into sin, God certainly sees our wrong actions. But in His mercy, He sees even more – a repentant heart that grieves falling short. He sees beyond the failures to our inner desire to please Him. As we turn back to God, He sees our hearts changing and growing more like Christ.
He sees our praise
God enjoys and inhabits the praises of His people (Psalms 22:3). Even if we feel our praise is weak or small, God sees the song rising sincerely from our hearts. Our praise brings Him joy. He sees our hearts turned towards Him in worship, and it matters profoundly.
God sees our future
Unlike us, God sees and knows the future. He looks ahead to what is to come in our lives. He sees the plans He has for us – plans to prosper us spiritually and not harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).
He sees the possibilities
Right now, we only see our current circumstances. But God sees all the possibilities and good paths ahead for our lives. He has prepared works for us to do that will bear eternal fruit (Ephesians 2:10). When all we see is a closed door, God sees many exciting new doors opening.
He sees our destiny
God sees the destiny and purpose He created us to fulfill. There is more ahead of us than we can imagine. He sees all we can become when we walk in His will. He looks beyond current struggles to the beautiful, hope-filled future He is preparing. We just need to trust His vision.
He sees our eternal home
This life is not the end. God sees the heavenly home and reward that await all His faithful children (John 14:2-3). An eternity of joy and blessing lies ahead for those who follow Christ. The trials of this world are light compared to the eternal glory God sees prepared for us.
God’s View of the Future | Our View of the Future |
Full of purpose and destiny | Uncertain, even fearful |
Bright with hope | Dimmed by current circumstances |
Eternal joy and reward | Temporal struggles |
Filled with possibilities | Limited by what we can see |
Conclusion
What an amazing gift that God sees us fully – past, present, and future! He knows us better than we know ourselves. Even when we feel unloved, unknown, or insignificant, God sees our true worth and identity. We do not have to prove ourselves to Him or try to hide our flaws. His perfect, compassionate, hopeful vision casts out all fear and insecurity. As we grow in understanding how God sees us, we can embrace His perspective more and more. We can rest in how our Creator lovingly sees and cares for us.
