What SCP is a planet?

The SCP Foundation is a fictional organization that contains and studies anomalous objects and entities in the fictional SCP universe. SCP stands for Special Containment Procedures. While many SCPs are contained on Earth by the Foundation, some SCPs are extraterrestrial in origin, including a number that are or involve entire planets.

SCP-1844 – Crater at 31.7███° N, 35.1███° E

SCP-1844 is an extinct planet that appears in the SCP universe as a massive crater on Earth at specific coordinates in the Middle East. The Foundation determined the crater was caused by the high-speed impact of the planet SCP-1844-1 approximately 4,000 years ago. Very little is known about SCP-1844-1 other than it was determined to be a terrestrial planet estimated at .6 times the mass of the Earth. The impact destroyed SCP-1844-1 and left behind the massive crater on Earth. The rim of the crater is comprised of anomalous minerals not found on Earth, leading researchers to conclude they originated from SCP-1844-1. Very little else is known about this now destroyed extraterrestrial planet.

SCP-2075 – The Man Who Was Thursday

SCP-2075 refers to an extrasolar planet that spontaneously appeared in the Triton system in the year 1943 and began orbiting Neptune. The planet’s appearance coincided with strange phenomena on Earth, leading some at the Foundation to suspect the planet’s origins were unnatural. The planet was designated SCP-2075-1 and does not match any known celestial body. It appears to have formed naturally and sustained life at some point, though no current signs of civilization exist. The Foundation determined SCP-2075-1 was likely moved to the Triton system artificially through unknown means. Its presence disrupts gravitational orbits and its appearance coincided with historical events on Earth, making SCP-2075-1 of great interest to Foundation researchers.

SCP-2085 – The Black Rabbit Company

SCP-2085 refers to a humanoid species called Leporids that inhabit the extrasolar planet SCP-2085-1. The Leporids built an advanced civilization and space program before makes first contact with humanity in 1971 when their ship crash landed on Earth’s moon. The Leporids are humanoid rabbits described as being over 2 meters tall with black fur. Their planet SCP-2085-1 is unknown other than it supported life and allowed the evolution of the sentient Leporids. After being discovered by humanity, the Leporids requested aid from the Foundation to repair their ship and return home. Their home planet’s location remains unknown. The Leporids remain at large on Earth according to the Foundation.

SCP-2293 – A Planet Sized Mass of Brain and Nervous Tissue

SCP-2293 refers to a massive planet-sized sphere composed of brain and nervous tissue suspended in space. The object is estimated at 1.3 times the mass of Jupiter. It is held together by some anomalous force and maintains a spherical shape. Despite having no organs or means of sustaining itself, the tissue that makes up SCP-2293 remains alive and exhibits faint electrical activity similar to a brain. The tissue displays some coordination and reactive behavior, though the scale makes communication impossible. The Foundation suspects SCP-2293 was artificially created, possibly as an attempt to spawn an elder god-like sentient being. Its creators and origins remain unknown.

SCP-2305 – great ideas that are TOTALY USELESS (lulz)

SCP-2305 is an extrasolar planet located 1.47 lightyears from Earth which exhibits memetic and cognitive properties. The planet seems to generate ideas and inspiration that compel space-faring civilizations to construct useless megastructures around it, eventually causing their decline. Any sapient beings viewing the planet feel a compulsion to build massive artificial structures around SCP-2305, even when construction serves no purpose. Many ancient alien races within the SCP-verse fell victim to SCP-2305’s effects. The Foundation believes current alien activity around Jupiter may be influenced by SCP-2305 memes. The planet’s properties are not fully understood but serve as an “inspiration trap” that doomed many space-faring civilizations.

SCP-4793 – Steppenwolf

SCP-4793 refers to an extrasolar planet located 43 lightyears from Earth that demonstrates unusual temporal properties. The Foundation discovered the planet exhibits time dilation effects, with time passing much faster on its surface. Agents who landed on SCP-4793 experienced years go by in mere hours to observers off-planet. The planet accelerated through its geological epochs, forming and eroding mountains, drying oceans, and undergoing extinction events in front of the research team. Research suggests sapient life may have evolved and gone extinct within a week of landing. The Foundation determined the temporal effects were increasing, estimating the planet may experience its full lifespan within the next 6 months relative to off-world time. The cause of SCP-4793’s temporal distortion is unknown. Whether it is natural or artificial in origin remains under investigation.

Other Planet SCPs

Here are some other examples of planet SCPs that demonstrate anomalous or extraterrestrial properties:

SCP Number Planet Description
SCP-2053 Gas giant exoplanet that appears to be sapient and aware of observers.
SCP-2191 Rocky planet enveloped by fog-like dust clouds exhibiting unusual optical effects.
SCP-1846 Planet in unpopulated star system transmitting complex radio signals resembling whale songs.
SCP-2034 “Failsafe” planet theoretically created through macroengineering to preserve humans.
SCP-3780 Planet resembling Mars but with anomalous geography not matching any real celestial body.

Conclusion

While the SCP Foundation and all associated anomalous objects are fictional, the creative sci-fi universe provides examples of imagined extrasolar planets that demonstrate metaphysical, memetic, and reality-bending properties. These planet SCPs showcase ways cosmic bodies could exhibit weird or supernatural phenomena, distort the laws of physics, or contain dangers and artifacts affecting other civilizations. The enigmatic origins of these fictional planets provide imaginative examples of alien worlds that spark wonder and horror. While real exoplanets may not be as radical, the SCP wiki gives authors liberty to speculate on bizarre extrasolar planets that exist only in humanity’s imagination.
