Class 1a and 1b at UA High School have been rivals ever since they started at the prestigious hero academy. With two classes full of talented future heroes, there has always been a debate about which class is stronger overall. In their third year, the rivalry came to a head when the classes competed against each other in a full-day training exercise to determine once and for all which class would come out on top.
The Rivalry Between 1a and 1b
Class 1a contains students like Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Ochaco Uraraka who have powerful quirks and have already faced real villains in combat. Class 1b has strong students too like Neito Monoma, Itsuka Kendo, and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu. Plus their homeroom teacher Vlad King is an experienced pro. Ever since their first year, the classes have been competing to see who the stronger heroes are.
In their foundational hero studies classes, 1a and 1b often participate in training exercises against each other. These exercises are meant to prepare the students to use their quirks in team battles and rescue scenarios. The class with the top performance scores in these exercises earns bragging rights over their rivals.
During the UA Sports Festival first year, class 1a dominated the competition with Bakugo taking first place and Todoroki taking second. This only intensified the rivalry as class 1b felt they needed to catch up to the powerhouse class. In the second year sports festival, class 1b put up a much better fight led by Monoma’s cunning strategies.
In their internships with pro heroes, the classes continued their rivalry as they compared who interned with the more popular and powerful heroes. Midoriya interned with the number one hero All Might, giving class 1a another edge.
As third years preparing for their provisional license exams, class 1a and 1b both wanted to prove their superiority once and for all in a direct class battle. Fortunately the teachers approved a training exercise to give them that chance.
The Training Exercise
The full day training exercise took place over several terrains at a training facility off campus. Vlad King and Eraserhead explained the rules. Class 1a and 1b would face off in teams of five to capture flags scattered around the terrain. Captured flags earned points for the class. Villain bots were also hidden as obstacles. Disabling bots earned more points.
Each class had a designated home base and jail. Captured students would be sent to the rival class’ jail. There were multiple rounds so students who were captured in one round could participate in the next. The class with the most points at the end of the day would be declared the winner.
To keep things fair, class 1a and 1b were restricted from using their most overpowered moves that could destroy the terrain or incapacitate too many opponents at once. Real strategy would be required to win.
Round 1: Urban Terrain
The first round took place in an urban setting with streets, alleys, and fake buildings. Class 1b took an early lead by capturing Midoriya’s team right away and sending them to jail. Monoma copied Midoriya’s One for All quirk to blast through 1a’s defenses.
However Bakugo devised a plan to recover. He had his team launch a sneak attack on the enemy jail, freeing the captured students. Then they ambushed Monoma’s team and captured them in revenge.
On the other side of the terrain, Shoto Todoroki’s ice walls blocked the street and alleyways, funneling class 1b into traps set by Ochaco Uraraka. She used her Zero Gravity quirk to make them float helplessly where they could be captured.
After the first round, class 1a had a solid lead over 1b. The class was working together applying their quirks creatively for capture tactics.
Round 2: Mountain Terrain
The next stage took place on a faux mountain with trails, cliffs, and caves. This terrain favored class 1b’s Juzo Honenuki whose Softening quirk could liquefy rock and sink class 1a into traps.
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu also went on a rampage in his steel form, smashing through icy barricades from Todoroki. Pony Tsunotori’s horn allowed her to punt enemies off cliffs from a distance.
However, Midoriya and Bakugo adapted using long-range attacks to counter while staying off the soft ground. Uraraka used debris as projectiles against the class 1b students.
In the end, class 1a managed to hold the lead after the round but 1b was catching up. Teachers warned both classes the final round would decide it all.
Round 3: Forest Terrain
The dense forest provided ample cover and ambush spots for both classes to hide. Stealth and strategy would be required along with power.
This played right into Toru Hagakure’s strengths. Being invisible, she infiltrated deep behind enemy lines and captured an early flag. Fumikage Tokoyami also used his Dark Shadow to scout from the trees and ambush.
However Itsuka Kendo countered by enlarging her hands to sweep away the stealthy attacks. She knocked out Dark Shadow while Tetsutetsu plowed through the trees trying to find Hagakure.
The exercise culminated in an epic final showdown between Midoriya and Bakugo against Monoma and Todoroki. Bakugo’s explosions filled the forest with smoke while Todoroki burned down trees to flush Monoma out into the open. Midoriya activated One for All 100% and shattered the ground, defeating the rival team in a climactic finish.
The Victor
At the end of the fierce training exercise, the teachers tallied up all the points. Both classes performed excellently, but only one could be victorious. Finally, Class 1a was announced as the winner! Although it was close, they captured more flags overall and disabled more robots in each stage.
Here is a summary table of the round by round results:
Round | Class 1A Points | Class 1B Points |
---|---|---|
Urban | 25 | 15 |
Mountain | 20 | 22 |
Forest | 18 | 14 |
Total | 63 | 51 |
Class 1a’s top students like Bakugo, Todoroki, and Midoriya made the difference in reacting to the varied terrain challenges. Their combat experience against villains also showed in creative teamwork and quirk applications.
Class 1b put up an impressive fight as well with Monoma’s tactics, Tetsutetsu’s power, and Kendo’s leadership. In the end 1a just had the edge when it came to all around performance and adaptation.
Conclusion
The rivalry between class 1a and 1b at UA High School reached a new peak with this training exercise. Both classes proved they were filled with future pro heroes who could work well in teams and overcome terrain challenges. However, class 1a demonstrated their experience and chemistry together to gain the hard fought victory.
Winning this direct clash should give class 1a confidence going forward in their provisional license exams and hero studies. But class 1b is hungry to continue improving and seize victory in the next exercise. The friendly but fierce competition between these classes will push them both to get stronger during their remaining time at UA High.
Although class 1a won this round, the race is far from over. Regardless of which class comes out on top in their school days, everyone recognizes that lessons learned from this rivalry will end up making both classes into elite heroes one day. The future of pro heroes in Japan is bright with such talented prospective graduates from UA High School.
