How Kalki will be born?

Kalki is the prophesied tenth avatar of Hindu god Vishnu who will come to end the Kali Yuga, one of the four stages of the endless cycle of existence in Vaishnavism cosmology. He is described in the puranas as the avatar who will rejuvenate the moral order of society and restore the authority of the gods. Kalki is expected to appear riding his white horse, wielding a fiery sword, to end the darkness of Kali Yuga and establish a new epoch of truth and righteousness. Though the exact details of his birth are not clearly described in the scriptures, there are some prophecies and descriptions that give an indication of how the legend of Kalki will manifest.

The Signs of His Coming

According to the Bhagavata Purana, the evil kings will rule the earth and turn people away from religion in Kali Yuga. There will be robbers disguised as kings who will devour the people. Wealth will decrease day by day until the world will be depleted of gold and food. At that time, Vishnu will take birth as Kalki to wipe out the prevailing sinfulness and restore order.

The Agni Purana predicts that at the time of Kalki’s birth, the rulers will be violent and plunder their subjects. They will seize the wealth and hide it away and chew betel without restraint. Meanwhile, common people will flee to valleys between mountains and subsist on leaves, roots, meat, honey, fruits, and flowers.

The Padma Purana states that men will devote themselves to earning money; the richest will hold power. The state leaders will perform sacrifices using living men instead of beasts. The people will sell their soul for money.

The Vishnu Purana proclaims that Vishnu will be born as Kalki when the constellations of the sun, moon, and Jupiter enter the zodiac sign of Leo (Simha rashi) and all three occur in the lunar mansion of Vishakha.

These predictions indicate the conditions of disorder and degradation that will prevail on earth before the coming of Kalki.

Where Will Kalki be Born?

According to the Kalki Purana, he will be born in the village of Shambhala in Sambhala, which presently is a hidden land that will be revealed right before his birth. Shambhala is believed to be located somewhere around the Himalayas, though opinions differ on the exact place.

The Padma Purana also states that Lord Vishnu will incarnate as the son of the great sage Vishnuyasha in the Sambhala village. So Shambhala, which literally means ‘place of peace’ or ‘place of silence’, is considered to be the fabled kingdom where Kalki will be born and live until he embarks on his mission.

The Parents of Kalki

As mentioned in the Kalki Purana and the Padma Purana, Kalki will be born to the saint or sage Vishnuyasha and his wife, Sumati. Vishnuyasha is supposed to be the foremost priest of the village and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He will be leading a peaceful life in the village when Kalki is born.

Sumati will conceive Kalki as an avatar of Lord Vishnu who will transfer His essence into her womb to be born as her son. So Vishnuyasha and Sumati will be the foster parents of Kalki but He will be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu Himself.

The Timing of Kalki’s Birth

Since Kalki is predicted to be born during the last stages of Kali Yuga, when evil and darkness dominate the world, the timing could logically be somewhere in the future of the present age.

According to the Vishnu Purana, Kalki will appear on earth when the moon, sun, Jupiter and the ascendant in the zodiac sign of Leo come together. This means astrologically, his birth would happen when the sun and moon are in the sign of Leo on the ascendant and Jupiter aspects this conjunction of the sun and moon in the ascendant sign.

However, since the time of the Vishnu Purana, this conjunction and configuration probably happened many times in the last 2000 years. So it is difficult to predict that it will indicate the precise birth of Kalki. Still, some scholars believe that this rare combination may occur around the year 2400 CE, which marks the end of Kali Yuga.

Overall, Kalki’s coming is expected at the end of the dark Kali Age when humanity reaches a low point of civilization. So Kalki may be born around or after the year 4100 CE which is the culmination of Kali Yuga according to a traditional timeline.

How Kalki will be raised

The scriptures do not offer many details about Kalki’s childhood or upbringing. However, since he is predicted to be born to sage Vishnuyasha in the holy village of Shambhala, Kalki is likely to have a religious and spiritual upbringing surrounded by learned saints and sages.

Some possibilities about how Kalki could be raised include:

  • He may undergo training in divine weapons, combat skills and military arts from an early age in preparation for his destined mission.
  • He may be educated in the Vedas, Puranas and other scriptures by his father and other religious teachers.
  • He may lead an active outdoor life with horses as Shambhala is known for its horses.
  • He may display divine powers and wisdom from childhood while maintaining a normal lifestyle.
  • He may be brought up in secrecy and obscurity to protect him until he is ready to fulfill his mission.

In essence, Kalki is likely to have a sheltered upbringing focused on developing his natural skills and powers to prepare him for his ultimate purpose. His early life will equip him for his divine crusade to destroy evil at the end of Kali Yuga.

The mission of Kalki

How Kalki will travel during his mission

The scriptures indicate that Kalki will travel extensively during his divine mission against evil. He is prophesied to ride a mystical flying white horse named Devadatta and travel swiftly across the earth to battle the armies of the Kali demon Kali and destroy the forces of darkness. Here are some ways Kalki may travel:

  • Ride his superfast flying white horse Devadatta capable of traveling to any realm.
  • Ride at supernormal speeds to faraway places using his divine powers.
  • Be accompanied by an army mounted on swift horses bred in Shambhala.
  • Use swift ships and boats to cross oceans and rivers.

So Kalki is prophesied to be capable of miraculous feats and supra-normal abilities to rapidly travel to any place in the mortal and divine realms. This will allow him to quickly carry out his mission against the forces of evil and darkness.

The weapons Kalki will wield

The Kalki Purana describes that Lord Kalki will be an unparalleled warrior and destroyer of evil forces. He will wield divine weapons and tools gifted to him by the gods. Each will be endowed with supernatural powers to combat specific forces of adharma. The weapons of Kalki described in the scriptures include:

  • A brilliant scimitar for cutting down the armies of the Kali demon Kali.
  • A bow called Sharanga gifted by Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
  • Arrows with heads like razors that can decimate entire battalions.

Thus, Kalki will be equipped with an array of invincible weapons, both tangible and mystical, bestowed upon him by the gods to defeat the forces of evil.

The allies of Kalki

According to the scriptures, Lord Kalki will not fight the forces of Kali Yuga alone. Several divine and heroic allies will assist him in his crusade against evil:

  • Parashurama – The sage warrior with an axe who will train Kalki in warfare and martial arts.
  • Hanuman – The monkey god who will aid Kalki using his supernatural powers.
  • Bhargava – A heroic warrior well-versed in ethics and scriptures.
  • Krishna’s nephew, Vajra – An incarnation of a naga king who will be a companion.
  • Kalki’s parents Vishnuyasha and Sumati will offer moral support.
  • Righteous kings and warriors will fight by his side against evil kings.
  • Sage Narada and other divine beings will provide guidance.
  • The horse Devadatta given by the gods will carry him into battle.

With the aid of such exalted figures, Kalki will be unstoppable in overthrowing the tyranny and decadence prevailing on earth.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the birth of Kalki and his divine mission will come to pass when the world has reached a nadir of spiritual decline in the Kali Age. Though the exact time cannot be predicted, astrological and scriptural prophecies give an indication of the environment and circumstances in which the legendary Kalki avatar will make his appearance. He will be born to saintly parents, raised in a holy place, and equipped with divine weapons and allies to fulfill his destiny as the annihilator of evil. Kalki’s ushering in of a new era will mark the end of the Kali Yuga and restoration of Dharma on earth.
